How to create a buzz around your rewards program

An Employee Rewards and Recognition Program can do all sorts for your business - but you need to be able to create a buzz around it to ensure engagement.

Increased employee engagement, heightened productivity, improvements in your bottom line... A great rewards program has the power to do wonders for your company. But all too often, employee rewards programs go stale. This is because while you may have thought carefully about the particulars of the actions you're going to reward or what prizes you'll offer, you may have given less attention to promoting your program.   

So, how can you create a real buzz around your Employee Rewards and Recognition Program, and keep people engaged in it time and time again? Here are the tried and tested methods we use at Power2Motivate!

1) Create a customised website

This tactic works for all types of companies. Creating a separate website that's unique to your program is an excellent way to improve engagement and create more excitement. It gives employees a platform to regularly check how they're going with their KPIs and see which rewards are on offer. If employees know what prizes they might win, they'll work harder to get them.

When you first launch your program, it's going to take a little while for employees to start receiving rewards. However, you can still link people directly to the website from day one, giving employees a tangible platform to interact with. 

A common reason a rewards program fails is that employees don't understand how it works. When there's a lack of transparency around why people are getting rewards, it's likely to create resentment among those who haven't received one and don't understand why. Additionally, if an employee receives a prize and they don't know the reason, there's no motivation for them to repeat the action in future, because they are unaware of what action has won them the reward. You can easily avoid this issue by including all the information on how your rewards program works on an easy-to-access website.

2) EDMs

Emails are another common tactic we use at Power2Motivate. Sending information on how the rewards program is going, who is on track for what prizes and which teams are doing best is a great way to remind people about the program. If you make any changes to the program, you can also let employees know via email, as well as updating the website of course. 

Just remember the golden rule with promotion - you need to keep your audience in mind. EDMs are great if the majority of employees are working in an office and have regular access to a computer. If most of your employees are in a factory, however, this will be less suitable.

3) Flyers, brochures and posters 

That doesn't mean you should worry if your employees don't have computer access - there are plenty of other ways to promote your program, including through flyers, brochures and posters! This tactic should also be employed by those who are using EDMs to ensure you have as multi-platform approach as possible. The important thing here is to ensure any physical promotion materials are in line with your company branding and message. This will help employees to see your program as an ingrained part of your company, and something that aligns with its values and mission statement.
