Sustainability in Action: Creating a More Sustainable eCommerce Network
The future of eCommerce will be defined by companies that move beyond sustainability as a selling point and embrace it as a responsibility. The question is no longer whether businesses should participate—it’s how they will lead.
At CarltonOne, we believe eCommerce should be a force for good. Through Evergrow, our sustainability partnership with Veritree, we’ve now funded the planting of 20 million trees worldwide—a milestone that represents more than just carbon offset. Each funded forest of trees, kelp, and mangroves helps restore ecosystems, create jobs in local communities, and make sustainability a seamless part of the global shopping experience by ensuring that merchandise and gift card transactions on our platform directly support global reforestation efforts.
While 20 million trees funded is a significant milestone, there is still more work to do. To minimize environmental impact across our eCommerce network, we also lead ongoing initiatives to source and ship locally, intentionally avoiding long-distance transportation, and enabling faster delivery, local voltage, warranty and tax compliance, and much lower Scope 3 emissions. We’re proud to be a global company operating at a local level in over 197 countries.
By continuing to invest in responsible sourcing, localized fulfillment, and high-impact sustainability initiatives, we aim to expand our efforts and help shape the future of ethical commerce. Read more about our impact here.
Moving Beyond Greenwashing: What Businesses Can Do
Sustainability shouldn’t be a Marketing checkbox—it should be an integral part of how businesses operate. Companies should consider the following options to drive real impact:
Ethical eCommerce isn’t just about what people buy—it’s about how businesses make sustainable choices easier and more meaningful. The companies that integrate sustainability into their core operations will set a new standard for ethical commerce.
A New Standard for Ethical eCommerce
To create a new standard of sustainability in eCommerce, a shift in expectations must take place. The brands that will shine in this new landscape will not be those that simply add “green” products to their catalog but those that integrate sustainability into daily operations. From responsible sourcing to localized fulfillment and AI-powered decision-making, businesses that take responsibility for the full lifecycle of their products will set a new standard for ethical commerce.
